Hello Friends: Do you dislike those pop-up balloon-tips that come up in the notifictaion area as much as I do? They can be turned off! Here are instructions on how to do so:

Yes, Kristin and I are all gone. We have, in fact, only recently arrived at the comfy confines of Broad St., with it's accordant pleasures, including our much-missed computer. We had a delightful time in your neck of the woods, although we were sad not to get to see more of you.

If anyone should ever need to contact us, my parents' phone number is in The Book, and probably always will be. I also spelled it out in one of the missives, below, when delineating the available details of our visit.

Mostly, it's hard for me to schedule stuff while visiting, as I place a priority on seeing family, and it's hard to get the whole group nailed down on exactly what were going to do.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing you on SBW...

I think we're gonna have dinner first and then come out so I don't have to worry about Annah being super picky and not eating. She looks forward to seeing kitties.
Expect us in the 7:00 type area.

Jason and Kristin are all gone. They're probably at the airport right now but will return for X-Mas time, I'm sure.

My phone number is mostly threes. And last time I was there I gived Dave my secret cell phone number.

Time to play outside.

  Comment #2764 by: Caciona/Dave at about 12:33 on July 1, 2007
Mr. Woodburn,

As we no longer have a contact phone number for you. Nor any knowledge of your plans for the rest of your stay (or if u are even here anymore) we would like to send out a message to the universe or anyone who does have contact with you that we request your presence at LLO party hospital tonight.

The party begins at 6 ish. YOur daughter is more then welcome. There are two kitties and a doggy. So she shall be well entertained. Also, bring something to throw on the grill. Any Q's? Give us a jingle. We would call but at the present time, Dave no longer has your phone number either. You boys are no good at this phone thing. Any who, Daves number is 309-798-7316.

Anyone else, feel free and welcome to join the festivities.

When is this alleged "cookout" to be? And are the childrens welcome? And if Annah comes, will there be kitties?

Also, how on earth did you get 1300 points of damage from falling on stairs?

Also, what's your KOL name, for this game I have been addicted to for nearly 2 years nau. : gB

Annah and I are gonna play outside for a bit. I'll give you a call later and see if you're up for some stuff. Are there other kids about? Nieces, nephews, etc?

Comment #2757 by: BurninatorX at about 17:10 on June 30, 2007

I'm not sure how much radness there will be. Right now, you seem to be the only one interested in stopping by. That's rad, to me, though.

So, if you want, come on over any time. We've had relatives in and out of the house all day... Not sure if any will still be here, but we can totally hang.

If you need to, call sixfivefourtwosixtwonine and we can chat about it. Or whatever.

Rock on,

Jason etc:
I'm picking up Annah and probably taking her somewheres for dinner. I should be back home between 6 and 7. Leave a message here or on my answering machine and we'll totally come over if there's to be radness.

Well, Duh! Why do you think I changed it? I no longer think a huge list of links is useful as finding your favorite page is only one "Google" away. I have noted that people don't save favorites nearly as often. You've probably heard someone say, "Just Google it, and you'll find it."

In the list's stead, I intend to switch things up now and then by featuring a few sites -- but will keep the center search-stack pretty much as users' have come to know it. As always, suggestions are always welcome and appreciated.

Oh no!! How can I live without a link to the Volo Auto Museum!! I mean seriously Adam, how many people actually clicked thru that link over the years? 10, maybe 12 people? 6 of them were probably just drunk and looking for Voltron websites.

Annah would certainly be welcome Saturday night. I'll let you know about the time. Friday night doesn't look too good... We are eating a family dinner, out somehwere... If at all, I'd only be free later on. Hope to see you some time.

I have Annah Saturday evening so if kids are welcome, we'll be over. Conversely, I may be able to drop her with my folks for a couple hours.
I have no plans for Friday (and no kid) so if something should happen or you just want to leave the house, notify me.

So, I am in Cordova, at lovely Chez Woodburn. I am having great times, and keeping pretty busy. It looks like the chance for games will be here, at the homestead, on Saturday night. If interested, let me know via forum or e-mail. If something else is going on, I/we should be able to get away that night.

Hey everyone. I get to be a year older next month. This year's celebration of my life will be held July 15th at my folks. I don't have a time yet, but plan around 1:00-ish. There's a pool, so bring your suit. Feating theme is "salads or light summer fare." Please bring a salad or finger food with you, but let me know in advance what you are planning so we don't have a ton of duplication.

ALSO, bear in mind that my family doesn't eat anything that once was a pig. So, if you have a pork based product in it, please make sure to note that.

I hope most of you can make it, as that would totally rule.
Please RSVP when you get the chance.

Carpe Tension

Comment #2742 by: BurninatorX at about 07:56 on June 25, 2007
Today someone posted a google translation of the live ticker for the announcement of the German Game of the Year (SDJ) award... there was a gem of a translatio quote in there:

10:52 The tension is for seazing.

It was so good, they repeated it.

I can easily see this becoming part of my everday vocabulary, of course to the bewilderment of all around me...

Hollywood Blockbuster, the US reprint of Reiner Knizia's Traum Fabrik, is on sale at for 13.99. A pretty good deal for a pretty fun auction game, which normally goes for $50. $6 shipping, I think. The game plays over several phases, marked on a board, during which the players bid on various parts of movies - directors, actors, special effects, sound, etc. to fill out "screenplays" which call for certain ingredients. Awards, and points, are given for finished films each round. All the items in the game are named as parodies of real-life people and films.

For those of you unfamiliar with Tanga - it's a web page that sells one product a day, in a limited quantity, until it runs out. Apparently, they have some sort of hotline to a place where they can buy clearance lots... Whatever they sell, they sell it very cheaply. It's not always games, but quite often some sort of electronic gadget.

I think Saturday, but maybe Friday - still waiting on confirmation from my sister - I will be asking anyone who wants to come over to my parents' house in Cordova for some gaming/talking. I'll keep you posted.

That finalize action button has gotten all of us. It's evil. EEEvil!

You know what's not evil? Bodies Of Water. The band, not the geographical concept.

Comment #2739 by: BurninatorX at about 10:35 on June 23, 2007
gB, sorry about taking so long on the turn... darn "finalize action" button...

Attention gamers, Amun-Re and Hacienda (alternate map) games are up!

Comment #2738 by: gB at about 15:58 on June 22, 2007
I'm up for whatever. I'm done with Tikal for a while I think. I like it lots but I need a break from it. Hacienda's always good. New games are good.

J, it's your turn on BGG.

What's everybody doing this weekend?

Comment #2737 by: BurninatorX at about 10:21 on June 22, 2007
Amun-Re is a fantastic game, by Reiner Knizia, one of my favorite designers. However, I like it better live than on sbw. The nature of the game is such that there is constant back and forth bidding during the auction phases, which makes it so that there's a lot of time between things actually happening (online). This comment is a ditto for Santiago - one of my favorite five players IRL. We could certainly try either or both, if you like... I'd give them a second go.

There are alternate Hacienda maps, however, I've not tried them. Only two were produced by the game designers. I don't know who made the rest of the available maps on sbw. I'd be up for trying them, though.

Hoity Toity is actually a pretty good game, designed by the guy that brought us Settlers of Catan, originally published as Adel Verpflichtet (sp?), it was an SDJ winner under that name. One of the first German games to be published in the US (by Avalon Hill, in the late '80s, under it's German title, and, later, as By Hook or By Crook). It's a game about collecting art with a rock/paper/scissors guessing/outguessing element. I've never played on sbw. Visitors to Dragon's Sanctum may have noticed their AH copy of BHoBC, which, as far as I can remember, has been sitting on the shelf there for about 15 years. Next time you're in there, check the layer of dust on top of it, and the way the shrink wrap on the bottom is worn off.

  Comment #2736 by: bo8b at about 09:31 on June 22, 2007
Amun-Re looks complicated and fun. Has anyone had any experience with that?

Comment #2735 by: Kris at about 09:11 on June 22, 2007
I'd like to try some of the other games listed on site. Not bus or hoity toity please. they look kind of dumb.

Hacienda? Tikal?

Comment #2732 by: Nesssssssssssssssssss at about 09:02 on June 21, 2007
I have no concrete plans...ever.

My summer will be devoted to pool-side evenings, play dates, and preparation for Tater to go into Pre-K.

Also, Tater is a big brother. His dad's girlfriend had a baby girl. So I will be dealing with helping Tater understand that as best as I am able.

I WANT to go hiking and am considering it for this Sunday, after I drop off the Tater with his father. If anyone would like to go with me, I will be leaving Davenport around the 930am mark and taking my arse to the caves, I'm fairly certain of this.

I like to clean.

Comment #2730 by: BurninatorX at about 07:21 on June 21, 2007
Adam - Have fun in New Yawk!

gB - Why look for new job?

Lengthy Discourse on Personal Life:

My summer so far has consisted of way too much World of Warcraft. I'm currently "between jobs" myself (read - old job over, no new job yet). I'm having a sort of mid-mid-life crisis, wondering if I should continue teaching, or try something else... of course, there's an impending move to Norway less than a year down the road (anyone considering visiting NC while I'm here better get off their ass).

I'm happily awaiting my upcoming visit to the QC. Other than that, the summer is pretty open. I still remain hopeful that I'll find a job, and be able to make enough money to go to Gen Con, although that seems unlikely. There is a wonderful little invitational boardgame convention here in September, though, which sort of makes up for missing GC. Sort of. In a little way. OK, almost not at all...

Meanwhile, I'm listening to Ron Sexsmith: Time Being, and reading Neil Stephenson: Quicksilver. I may try to make it out to see MC Chris in July. In comic world, I continue to be rocked by Ex Machina and Walking Dead, primarily.

I've joined two weekly boardgame groups, DR GLASS and DAGGER. Unfortunately, both require me to drive about half an hour to get to them. But it's nice to play live.

Comment #2729 by: gB at about 00:22 on June 21, 2007
Prior to yesterday, it's been ludicrously hot here in the QC. As in pushing 100 degrees pretty much every day for a week. Gross. But it has been halfway dry, so it's not as bad as it could be.
Also, I filled up my gas tank for $2.84 a gallon yesterday! YAY for Iowa!

Summer plans for me mostly involve looking for a new job and continuing to sell off my CD collection on while amassing music digitally via the wonder of eMusic.
That, and Tilly and the Wall are playing Iowa City again in July. I'll hopefully be attending that.

Have fun in NY, Adam! Are you doing anything special? Or just hanging out? I think I'd want to attend a Letterman taping or some such were I to visit the Big Apple.

You got the Baker? Rad, Bob! Congrats! Keep us posted on showtimes.

  Comment #2727 by: bo8b at about 19:24 on June 20, 2007
Have a good time in New York, Adam!

My summer has been fairly quiet. Started a new job. Well, a new position at the same company. I'm over supporting existing computer stuff instead of creating new computer stuff. Basically the same stuff, but a lot more work to do, and much more interaction with the customer, so I like it a lot better.

I also just got cast as the Baker in a local production of Into the Woods. That's a role I've been wanting to do since probably college, so I'm really excited about it. It's the first two weekends in August, if anyone's interested.

After that, I was offered a paying gig to play sax and piccolo for Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. I don't know if I'll do that, though. It's kinda country-flavored, which is really not my thing. That and I'd have to learn how to play piccolo.

Other than that, you know, just the usual. Trying to be a good person.

Comment #2726 by: Adam at about 13:43 on June 20, 2007
This Open Forum is not generating the kind of spontaneous conversations that it once did. Perhaps I should undo the block that stopped the robot from telling us about all kinds of fabulous drugs! :)

How has everyone's summer been going? Except for a couple of humid days, the weather has been remarkably San-Diego like in that it has been mostly warm and dry everyday. I hope the remainder of the summer has more of the same in store for us.

Does anybody else have any travel or vacation plans for the Summer? I'm off to New York this weekend to see friends.

Bueller? Bueller?

I've been Reef Encountering to the best of my ability in Dave's stead. I fear he shan't win with me at the helm.
I've also been trying to legitimately play his red Tikal dudes without regard to my own orange dudes.
