Degree Inequality - The Berkeley Blog

I count myself as one of those marginal students. I landed an office job out of college, but even with same, couldn’t afford a marginal used cars and a decent place. After living paycheck to paycheck for 18 months, I went to college because I wanted ‘nice things.’ I frequently advice young cousins: Go to college, away from home, I don’t care what you study, graduate. I’m quite sure my life would be very different if I stayed in the Quad Cites working at non-college-educated pay rates. Viva-la-college!

At lunch today, a colleague posited that “Facebook is the new AOL. If you think about it, Facebook is what AOL was 15 years ago.”

Hmmmmm.

I went for a quick ride on the bike this afternoon. It's not that bad at city speeds, as long as it is above freezing and the roads are dry. I'm looking forward to warmer days. Since this Friday, sunset has been occuring after 5PM.. But if you look at today's forecast, it's clear it'll be some time before I can ride regularly:

No dice. Looks like I may be the only human ever to purchase HearSay 1000 and Aqua the Clown. What a wretched piece of hardware/software.

I did find this though:

Comment #3745 by: Adam at about 18:35 on December 22, 2010

I visited many dealerships in search of a replacement. The CTS-V and S5 were both too expensive, the Dodge Challenger too fat and soft, the Lexus IS 350 is great looking inside and out, but the safety freaks at Toyota won't allow the stability controls to be turned off. When you boil it all down, it comes down to the simple fact that "I just wanted my car back."

Can't wait to give it a spin. I'm a little surprised you chose the same color scheme. Looks great!

I consider this web-page thing a “hobby” and I take a certain amount of pleasure that people actually have it set as their home page. As I continue to modify it, and resist to make it a self-promoting page, I was wondering the following: In the “old days,” I used to search several search engines in my quest for information. Now, I generally use only Google, thinking, “If it isn’t on Google, it probably isn’t out there.”

Question; When doing hard-core searches, do you bother to search other engines such as Yahoo or Bing? Or, do you take the attitude that I do: If you can’t find it on Google, it probably isn’t out there?

I just learned that motorcycle parking in my [work] building is a mear $40/month. That's $50/month less than my bus pass. I'm only disappointed that Winter is upon us.

Yeah, classic paint job. It's starting to get a bit chili for motorbiking, and I'll want to take this baby up to at least 100mph. I don't feel like doing that when it's 55 degrees. Looks sharp!

Anytime! It should show up next week. This is the "Honda Interceptor." Honda started the sport-touring bike craze in the early 1980's. This particular bike, with it's red, white and blue paint scheme, pays respects to those early bikes... This bike, a 2007, is a "25th Anniversary" edition. This bike, even though a 2007, is brand new -- zero miles. Several dealers bought a bunch of them thinking they'd go UP in value. They didn't. In 2007, this was an eleven-thousdand dollar motorcycle.... I paid nowhere near that! The Interceptor in general, and this paint scheme in particular, has always spoken to me -- so I'm excited to start riding again!
