Hi Bob.. Well, it turns out that I'm actually back in San Jose.... I decided to stay in California!
To answer your question about the bass in your setup -- that's a real tough environment.. But if the speakers are in the corners of the room, that amplifies bass. If you can pull the speakers away from the walls -- and perhaps elevate a bit, that should help. If you have the ability, you could "fly" the speakers -- have them aim down at the audience or fire downward -- that should help, too.

Adam! Saw you're on your way back to Chicago. I hope your journey is a good one. Welcome back to the lands of corn and snow!
A question for you (or anyone who knows about sound): I'm in a community choir out in Geneseo, which performs in a gymnasium. As you can imagine, the acousics in there are slightly less than ideal. It's full of reverb, but particularly in the bass frequencies. One of the numbers includes a small swing combo, and the drums (bass drum especially) is completely overpowering.
Other than reducing (or removing) any bass from the EQ, would you have any other suggestions about how to set up the amplification system so that it is less muddy in sound?

A very long academic paper. Takes weeks to write and is a huge pain in the ass but worth it in the end if it's any good. It better be good.

I tell people that it's a decent action movie but "Star Trek" doesn't belong anywhere near it. I've been trying to justify it for a few weeks but in my mind it still rings up as a huge joke.

I saw Star Trek. Eh. I didn't love it. I think Abrams went a little too "Star Wars" this time around. You when C3PO was hanging off that ship in mid air flopping around? In the first Star Wars movie, he was a whimpy thing and would never do that. But with CGI, we can have him doing acrobatics.... So in Star Trek into Darkness, Spock and Khan are having a fight on top of moving ships, jumping back and forth on them while beating the crap out of each other. It's just not convincing. The rest of the movie is just a bit too frenetic for my taste, too. Eh.

I'm basically finished with FB. I'm very much considering deleting it but I do like a few aspects of it. Not much, mind you. I do love Twitter, it gives me the freedom to find information very fast. As long as you're smart about who you follow, it can be very informative and helpful to build a network. Plus, I don't feel obligated to follow anybody. I've found that 70 is about the optimal number of people or companies to follow without missing information or feeling overwhelmed by information.
My buddy just sent me an invite to a network that is set up very much like Twitter but with a few more options. I think it would be cool for folks that used to visit the TDMC forum. It's fast to share information and there is an app for it. Check it out, it's called app.net and it would be a cool way to start fresh.
gB, I haven't forgotten about sex recliner. It's on my mind every day.
